Fiction and Expository Writing

By reading fiction and non-fiction works, your vocabulary, language development and critical thinking skills will soar! Whether we read a book that you are interested in or I provide the source, you will be engaged in in-depth understanding of the literary work. I will tailor your education to your individual interests and needs, creating a dynamic and engaging learning experience. For example, if you’re passionate about social justice, we might explore Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech alongside contemporary works by authors like Sandra Cisneros and Richard Wright.

AP English Language and Composition

You will learn how to write the three different essays required: synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argument. You will learn to write a clear, well-organized essay under time constraints. You will learn how to use research to support your position. Secondly, you will learn how to examine sources critically to assess credibility. Additionally, you will learn how to construct a persuasive argument to support your position.

Additionally in-depth analysis of style, tone and mood, diction, denotation and connotation, syntax and clause identification are important and necessary areas that will be mastered.

AP US History and AP World History

You will develop deep knowledge of historical periods, civilizations, and key events. You will be taught themes of globalization, state-building and cultural exchange. Critical thinking and analysis will help you evaluate primary and secondary sources for determining bias, credibility and perspective. I will help you develop strong arguments using evidence and guide you through the different perspectives on historical events.

  • Thesis Development: I will help you develop thesis statements that are focused.
